Import 14: How can I transfer groups from ProCite to EndNote X1/X2?

Answer: It is not possible to directly transfer groups from ProCite to EndNote, but you can use these steps to transfer the data.

In ProCite
  1. Open your ProCite Database.

  2. Go to your "Groups" tab.

  3. Select your first Group.

  4. Select the "Clear Marked" button.

  5. Select the "Mark List" button.

  6. Go to the "Database" Menu, choose "Edit Marked Records->Global Edit..."

  7. Under "Selected Fields" choose "Keywords". Select "Add to the end of this field" in the "Change" dropdown.

  8. Under text to add, type

    //.nameofgroup.

Where nameofgroup is your name for this group. Click OK.

  9. Repeat steps 3-8 for all remaining groups.

In EndNote

  1. Open EndNote and convert the ProCite database using the steps here.

  2. In the converted library, go to the "References" Menu and choose "Search References".

  3. Search the "Keywords" field for your first group name with the period before and after the group name, so search for

    .nameofgroup.

  4. Select all of the found references in this group.

  5. Go to the "References" menu and choose "Add References to" ->"Create new Group".

  6. Name the new group the old group name (do not add the // or the periods this time, as this will be the final name for the group).

  7. Go to the References Menu and choose "Show All References".

  8. Repeat steps 11-16 for all remaining groups.
