Why do the number of references in my library not match the reference ID numbers for my references?

| Answer:
The Reference ID number is the unique database number assigned to a reference when it is created. This number is never reused in the same library, even if you delete the reference that was originally assigned this number. So, if you have a library of 100 references and delete all of these references, then create a new reference in this library, the Reference ID number of this new reference will be number 101, even though it is the only reference in the library.
It is common to have the Reference ID numbers not match up with the number of references in your library, this can happen if you delete a duplicate reference for instance.
