Word 2008
Due to technical changes to Office 2008 for Macintosh third-party add-in connectivity, EndNote Cite While You Write (CWYW) is not compatible with Word 2008.

Microsoft and Thomson Reuters are actively working on an update to fully restore CWYW compatibility for EndNote X1.

Thomson Reuters and Microsoft will continue to provide timely information on the progress of these efforts available at http://www.endnote.com and http://www.officeformac.com/blog/.

Please stay tuned for more information, or register to be notified when the update is available. The update will be free to all registered EndNote X1 for Mac users.

To use EndNote with Word 2008 today, follow the steps below:

- Open your document in Word 2004 or X.

- Select the Cite While You Write option to "Unformat Citations"

- Save the document as a RTF file (do not save as a .doc or docx file)

- Open EndNote and select Tools menu > "Format Paper" to generate a new document with the formatted citations and bibliography.

If you no longer have Word 2004 on your machine, our technical support team is pleased to assist you with unformatting your citations.

Pages (iWork) 2008
We have had many users who have expressed interest in having the CWYW tools for Pages. At this time, Apple does not offer any tools for software developers to integrate their programs into Pages. Without these tools, we cannot create an integrated CWYW experience in Pages. Once these tools became available, we will be able to research options for adding CWYW support to Pages. Apple has a page where you can offer feedback directly here.
