EndNote Support - CWYW for Word 2008

Cite While You Write™ for Word 2008

This update provides EndNote Cite While You Write compatibility with Microsoft Word 2008.

INSTRUCTIONS:

EndNote X1 and Word 2008 SP1 must be installed prior to running this patch. Word 2008 needs to be updated to at least Service Pack 1. To verify you have Service Pack 1, open Word and go to the Word menu and choose "About Word." The version listed here must be 12.1.0 or higher.

Note: This update is for EndNote X1 only. We have not released any updates allowing older versions of EndNote to work with Word 2008.

Download the file "CWYW_Word_2008.dmg" (File Size:
3 MB).

Close EndNote and Microsoft Word 2008.

Double-click the "CWYW_Word_2008.dmg" file to mount.

Double-click the "CWYW For Word 2008" Disk Image to open.

Double-click the "CWYW For Word 2008.pkg" file to start the installer.

Follow the installer prompts to update Word 2008.

If you do not see the tools after installing, get troubleshooting steps for EndNote X1 and Word 2008.

A few issues exist with this patch:

Configure EndNote does not install/uninstall CWYW for Word 2008. This patch installer is the only way to add the EndNote X1 tools automatically to Word 2008.
Some users have reported that all the tools and menus in Word 2008 appear greyed out after installing the EndNote X1 CWYW patch for Word 2008. Switching the focus away from Word 2008, to the Finder or another program, and then returning to Word allows the toolbars to work.
Figure commands result in unexpected issues with the CWYW tools. We do not recommend working with figure lists with EndNote X1 and Word 2008.
The EndNote manuscript template wizard uses a component not found in Word 2008. Templates can be opened in Word 2008, but the wizard to set elements of the template will not run.
The CWYW keyboard shortcuts do not work, so you must use the menu items or the toolbar.
